How can he put up signs that say Dogs MUST be on a lead at all times? The law only requires that a dog must be on a lead or otherwise under close control - and that only in a field containing sheep, and there are a number of exceptions. Some people certainly do not have their dogs under control or on a lead which is clearly wrong. Signs that say please keep your dog on a lead or under control would at least make people think, but the fact is that many dog owners who have the intention of keeping a dog on a lead fail for any one of so many reasons. Most cases of sheep worrying involve dogs with no owner present to be holding on a lead. Dogs escape from gardens, and vehicles and from being on a lead when it breaks or the dog slips the collar, or the handler gets tripped by the lead and lets go. Dogs lunge and bark on the lead and so still cause distress to the sheep. Some dogs have their dogs well trained to be under close control and so cause no problem even off lead with the owner and some train their dogs not to want to approach sheep even if the owner is not with them, so why MUST those dogs be on a lead? The farmer should think what it is he actually wants and stop acting like a fascist instructing people to do more than the law requires. He is promoting a failed message. "Put it on a lead" / "Keep it on a lead" has been the message for years and continues to fail. Farmers should be promoting realistic dog training including stock avoidance training with e-collars out of ned self interest.

what use to be dereham boys secondary school was the best and still is the best school in the country shame I could not stay there till I was 16 as we moved away schools everywhere else are so poor but this school has the best education. amazing town amazing people lots of good old friends still keep in touch
